ARCADIS have been providing consultancy services to the Pharmaceutical industry for nearly 15 years. During this time we have built up relationships with a number of the major Clients in this sector predominantly providing outsourced project and cost management services.

At Astra Zeneca we have been the preferred supplier for Project Management for over twelve years. During the lifecycle of this agreement we have provided Cost Management, CDM Co-ordinator, Technical & Process Engineering Support, Construction Management and taken responsibility for managing and delivering the whole portfolio of capital projects across primary & secondary manufacturing; laboratories and offices; and general site infrastructure.

In December 2008 ARCADIS were appointed as Project Management Delivery Partner for GlaxoSmithKline's R&D businesses in the UK. Our role is to work directly with GSK's programme managers to deliver capital projects across Engineering and Facilities; Pharmaceutical Development; Chemical Development and Biopharm business areas. Resource planning and project management tools and techniques developed with other pharmaceutical clients are being implemented to help GSK improve the project management service to R&D clients and drive value from capital budgets.

In March 2009 ARCADIS were appointed by GSK to provide a "shared service" supporting the whole R&D capital project portfolio with Cost Management, CDM-Coordinator, Construction Managers, and Administrative Support. The service has put in place a multi disciplined team that is currently rolling out new cost management techniques and software systems to support GSK's targets driving higher value out of capital budgets.

ARCADIS have been the preferred supplier of project management services for Novartis R&D and Pharmaceutical Operations since 2007. Our services were initially employed to support Pharma Ops with a peak in project workload which has developed into our appointment directly with R&D to manage the portfolio of R&D works. The service covers laboratory, office and infrastructure projects and delivers the changes directly to the R&D customer base.

Since 2007 ARCADIS have developed new tools and processes to shorten project lifecycles and effectively "catch up" with a backlog of projects in the capital planning process. Our role has recently extended to taking responsibility for managing the term contractor agreement where we have successfully renegotiated the agreement to drive further cost reductions for R&D.
